On Saturday, July 18th, New Orleans jazz trumpeter Lionel Ferbos celebrated his 98th birthday! He played not one but TWO gigs (@ 8 pm and 10 pm) to bring in his 98th year! He performed at Snug Harbor in New Orleans. Ferbos is often described as New Orleans’s oldest living and actively playing jazz musician. In fact, his family wouldn’t let him play the trumpet when he was growing up. He learned how to play the trumpet at night while he worked as a metalworker during the day. Perhaps that is why he keeps on playing with such passion!
