Remy Charlip, 80, overcomes stroke and continues expressing himself

Remy Charlip has illustrated/authored 33 children’s books. He’s socialized with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, John Cage and many others. He’s even invented a new type of choreography known as “airmail dances.” He did all of this before his 76th birthday.

Charlip, now 80, suffered a stroke 4 years ago but has continued to engage in the things that he loves – art and dance. It wasn’t easy at all but he was determined to regain his ability to express himself through his art. In addition to working with physical, occupational and speech therapists, Charlip also worked with a dance choreographer Anne Bluethenthal.

Through hard work, he’s significantly improved his speech and also taken up painting again and takes great pleasure in looking back at his life’s work. Read more about his incredible story in a recent article in J.

At Engage As You Age we believe that everyone should be engaged with their passions like Remy Charlip.
