Have you heard of the Go Computer? If not, it is a really interesting option for seniors. It is designed specifically for them. Engage As You Age has demoed a Go Computer and was impressed by it. It isn’t for everyone but it certainly has a place on the market and could make a difference in the lives of many people. They charge around $30 month for service fees but that includes some great customer service that can actually take over our computer and make the appropriate fixes for you (all while you sit in front of it).
A few things to note about this is that it does not have a web camera so you wouldn’t be able to use Skype on this computer. It also locks you into their computer. You can’t go to Best Buy or another store and buy any computer and use their customer service. Everything (aside from a printer) needs to be part of their package.
Below is an informative video that will let you see how it works. Note that the first minute and change of the video is a product review of a senior-friendly cell phone (or one that is marketed as such).
Have you used the Go Computer? If so, please contact us and tell us what you think about it. Engage As You Age always wants to hear your thoughts on the gizmos and gadgets out on the market that seniors can use.
Do not hesitate to contact Engage As You Age at 415-690-6944 if you need some help and your loved (parent, grandparent, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather) would like to easily connect with you.

Very overpriced, grandma must be made of gold!
Slow processor, no clue as to the operating system, probably a hacked version of Linux (ok, that is a plus), no mention of a cdrom or dvd device. Seniors, you’d be better off to have a knowledgeable grandchild buy you a cheap pc, install linux and spend a weekend teaching you how to use it. Using their tech service would cost you 240 dollars a year on top of your broadband costs. Crazy…
