Slate just released its list of the 80 most powerful octogenarians in America. Thomas S. Monson, 82, was #1 on the list. He is President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Last year’s #1, Associate Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stephens dropped to #2 (at least according to Slate) because of rumors that he plans on retiring.
The highest ranking “newbie” was Barbara Walters who recently turned 80.
Next year Warren Buffett, George Soros and Clint Eastwood will turn 80. Expect major changes to the rankings next year with these soon-to-be octogenarians.

What a great list! As we all age I look forward to the most powerful 90 over 90 and 100 over 100.
